Sir/Madam,

I am writing to protest in the strongest terms at the reign of injustice and terror being unleashed against social activists in Kazakhstan. I paste below a report. I demand the immediate release of Esenbek Ukteshbayev and the dropping of charges against the activist who spoke out in court (as per below report).

I also demand the regime immediately rescinds this order of «physical annihilation”, to the police force, to the judiciary and in public.

Should these points not be met very quickly, you can expect further protests globally.

As a member of the german teacher´s Union (GEW) I stand in solidarity with the trade union workers in Kazakhstan. The right of workers to unionise must not be denied.

A copy of this e-mail has been sent to the OSCE.

Yours sincerely,

Steffen Strandt, Berlin, Germany

member of Gewerkschaft Erziehung und Wissenschaft (german teacher´s union)

To the Akim (Mayor) of Almaty,

I have been informed today by the Committee for a Workers International of the arrest of a leader of the Independent Trade Union of Workers and Staff, Esenbek Ukteshbayev who has been illegally imprisoned for 15 days.

This was for the «crime” of handing in a petition to the Akim (Mayor) of Almaty on Independence Day with the demand that his deputy, Serik Seiduman, should resign after practically calling for the elimination of all rural residents now living in the city.

I ask for the immediate release of Esenbek Ukteshbayev and an immediate end to the repression and terror being waged against the democratic rights of workers in Kazakhstan.

I have circulated reports of your repressive activities to trade unions across the southern region of Britain who will redouble our efforts to build solidarity for the independent workers movement of Kazakhstan.

To the Akim of Almaty

I am writing to protest in the strongest terms at the reign of injustice and terror being unleashed against social activists in Kazakhstan.

In particular, having had the privilege to hear Esenbek Ukteshbayev speak at a meeting in TUC Congress House in London in November of this year, I am outraged to hear of his arrest and I demand his immediate release and the dropping of charges.

I also demand the regime immediately rescinds this order of «physical annihilation”, to the police force, to the judiciary and in public.

Should these points not be met very quickly, you can expect further protests globally.

Yours sincerely,

Martin Powell-Davies,

Member of the National Executive of the National Union of Teachers, London, UK

I demand the immediate release of Esenbek Ukteshbayev and an end to the repression against trade unionists and political activists, including the person put on trial for protesting against the mock trial E. Ukteshbayev was subjected to. The increasing repression in Kazakhstan is well known, and the regime you’re part of will still be watched by socialists and democrats around the world after the end of Kazakhstan’s OSCE chairmanship.

Thies Wilkening, student and activist, Hamburg, Germany

Sir,

I wish to express my outrage at the continued repression of workers rights activists in your country.

The arrest and detention of Esenbek Ukteshbayev is only the latest example of disregard of human and workers rights.

I shall contact my Member of the United Kingdom parliament and Members of the European Parliament to protest at these actions.

Yours,

P. McNally

Dear office of the Amir of Almaty:

I wish to protest in the strongest terms at the imprisonment of trade unionist Esenbek Ukteshbayev, who was jailed on 19 December 2010. Mr Ukteshbayev’s trial and imprisonment violate both the law of Kazakhstan and basic human rights. I demand you release him and his colleagues immediately.

Yours sincerely,

Edmund Schluessel

December 20, 2010

Akim (Mayor) of Almaty

Kazakhstan

Sir,

CDWRN PROTEST THE ILLEGAL ARREST AND INCARCERATION OF ESENBEK UKTESHBAYEV

WE CALL FOR HIS IMMEDIATE AND UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE

The Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights Nigeria (CDWRN) condemns in strong terms the illegal arrest and incarceration of Esenbek Ukteshbayev, a leader of the Independent Trade Union of Workers on December 19, 2010 for 15 days.

It is unfortunate that the reason for victimizing Esenbek is because he submitted a petition to Akim (Mayor) of Almaty on Independence Day with the demand that his deputy, Serik Seiduman, should resign after he called for the elimination of all rural residents now living in the city.

CDWRN condemns the Nazarbayev regime for subsequently organizing a ‘kangaroo’ trial that led to the illegal imprisonment of Esenbek and further detention of another activist who was arrested in court for raising objection to the sham trial.

We see these illegal arrests and detentions as dictatorial, undemocratic and barbaric. Hence, we demand for the immediate and unconditional release of Esenbek Ukteshbayev and others still detained illegally. We hereby warn that the continued detention of these activists and other human right violations will compel CDWRN to embark on widespread campaign that will expose the dictatorial and repressive activities of the Kazakhstan regime.

Yours truly,

Signed by:

Comrade Victor Osakwe

National Secretary
